We are very sorry that we are no longer able to support schools but hope you will be able to find the information you require elsewhere in the Education section of this website, especially the Resources page.
We offer various services for schools as detailed below.
INSET-STYLE TRAINING SESSIONS
If you would like a representative of Colour Blind Awareness to come and speak to teachers at your school we do offer an INSET style training sessions (approximately 1 hour). This provides teaching staff with a general overview of colour blindness including examples of everyday problems which might arise within the Key Stage they specialise within PLUS an interactive quiz and activities where teachers can find out how they might cope with everyday school tasks if they were colour blind!
For an in-person visit to deliver an introductory session tailored to your setting, our current charges are £525.00 plus travel time and travel costs. Alternatively we can offer a basic online introductory training session for £350.00 (unlimited logins).
Please note we are unable to provide copies of the slides etc. for circulation after the event.
Contact us at [email protected] for more information.
COLOUR VISION SCREENING TESTS
We also offer a screening for pupils and/or training of your SEN staff to allow you to undertake your own screening.
We usually find about 80% of children moving up to Key Stage 3 (11 years) have never had a colour vision test. Although about 75% have had a standard NHS eye test this does not include a colour vision test, so parents can mistakenly assume that their child has normal colour vision. This means that on average around 80% of colour blind children arrive at their secondary school not knowing that they have a colour vision deficiency.
We can screen 30 children in an hour, so for example would be able to screen half of a new Year 7 cohort (60 pupils) in a morning or afternoon. Note that this is a screening service only. Pupils will not be notified of results and schools must refer any pupils with results which indicate they have a colour vision deficiency to an optometrist.
Ideally children should be tested as soon as they enter Reception/Key Stage 1.
Charges vary depending upon location and numbers of children to be screened.
