At Colour Blind Awareness we know how difficult it can be to find products to help colour blind children to learn and use colours correctly. We also understand how bewildered a colour blind child can feel if they are not confident at choosing colours for themselves.

We have therefore sourced a range of products to help colour blind children increase their confidence with colours – for use at home or in school, together with other products which might be of interest to colour blind people, parents, teachers and other professionals working with colour.

SELF-LABELLED COLOURED PENCILS (click for more information)

The Crayola Coloured Pencils range allows your child to improve their colour recognition over time, starting with 12 of the most easily distinguishable colours in the 12 pencil pack (for ages 4 up), adding a further 12 colours in the 24 pencil pack as your child’s confidence grows (suitable from age 7 up) and finally moving on to the more sophisticated 36 colour range for children who have mastered the subtle differences in colours of the 24 set and are able to work with a more complicated range of colours (age 9 onwards).

STICKERS (click for more information)

Use our simple mixed size sticker sets to label your own sets of art materials – suitable for felt tipped pens, paint pots, crayons, storage boxes etc.

Excellent for teachers for use in the classroom – quickly and easily label colouring materials so colour blind children can easily identify the colours they need or ‘colour’ code boxes of toys/books etc to make your classroom as colour blind friendly as possible.

Give your child their own personalised set of colour–named belongings so that they can be confident of always having the ‘correct’ colours with them at school.

Colour Vision Perception Kit

This kit is a fantastic educational tool for teachers and helps parents to explain colour blindness to colour normal siblings

Have fun with colour vision in the classroom!

Conduct tests in colour vision and experience what it’s like to be colour blind. Start with the ‘hidden images’ cards with images carefully selected for children. Flip the cards over to see vivid scribbles then use the coloured filters and watch images magically appear from the scribbles. These images will appear for both colour blind and normally sighted children. A fun way to learn about camouflage too! This kit is a great way to introduce children to a serious issue.

Colour Blind Awareness Indicative CVD Testing Kit for Non-Verbal Children

The Colour Blind Awareness Indicative Testing Kit for Colour Vision Deficiencies (colour blindness) in Non-Verbal Children

This kit is designed for parents and teachers of non-verbal children to give an indication of colour vision deficiencies.

Non-verbal children are usually taught using Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) methods which rely heavily on colour, so it is essential that children unable to see colours normally are identified as early as possible. As the usual colour vision tests cannot be used for non-verbal children this test aims to give an initial indication of colour discrimination problems until formal diagnostic tests are available.

This Test demonstrates to carers which colours a child may struggle with and therefore must be avoided when teaching the child to communicate. The image below shows how a child with severe colour blindness might perceive the colours of the Test Kit.

Refer to the Special Educational Needs Section of this website for further information.

A child must be able to indicate ‘same’ and ‘different’ by eye-gaze or other means before they will be suitable candidates for the Test.

Comprehensive instructions on how to carry out the Test are included.
